CLSA Central Valley Chapter Meeting Information

You will find details on the October 2017 meeting of the CLSA Central Valley Chapter below. Please contact any of the chapter officers with questions about the meeting.

  • Date and Time: Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 6:00 PM
  • Location: Perko's in Modesto (901 North Carpenter Road)
  • Speaker: Safe-T-Lite
  • Topic: Traffic Control Safety for today’s Surveyors

In memory of our friend and fellow surveyor Russel “Scotty” Atkinson, the Central Valley Chapter of the CLSA is devoting this meeting to Traffic Control Safety. As you may remember, we lost Scotty in a tragic accident while he was performing field surveying in July, 2016. The specific task Scotty was performing is no different than what many of us have done for years. We may never know all the answers to all the questions surrounding the accident, however one thing is certain, we lost a great person and very valuable asset to our surveying community. It is critical that our profession is utilizing the best practices possible to avoid another tragedy, such as Scotty’s.

Representatives from Safe T Lite of Modesto will be joining us at this meeting. Scott White (General Manager), Michael McCullough (Operations Manager) and Alberto Delgado (Traffic Control Foreman) have agreed to join our meeting and provide information regarding Safe T Lite’s ability to assist in this effort. Safe T Lite offers many different solutions for Traffic Control Safety practices to comply with all the current requirements and traffic situations.

We probably all realize traffic volumes and driving behavior has drastically changed in the last 20 – 30 years. The days of placing a few traffic cones around a work zone is not sufficient any longer.

The Chapter is constantly encouraging more attendance from the younger generation of surveyors. This meeting and discussion would be an ideal setting for new attendees. Our younger surveyors are the individuals performing most of the work out there within these traffic areas. Their input and expertise will be welcomed during this discussion. Please join the group and take part in this discussion. As mentioned, it is the responsibility of our profession to ensure we are practicing with the upmost safety and training the next generation of surveyors.
